Battle Mechanics

Battle Mechanics (Under the most typical case):

  • Loading into the battle screen a user is presented with 2 teams. Under normal cases its two teams of 6.
    • Two rows of 3 columns.
  • A team who has the highest total power gets to attack first
  • The character in the first row, and first column of the chosen starter team attacks first.
  • If that character does not have 600 skill points (OR more depending on their skills description text) they will use their 'Basic Attack'.
  • If that character gains enough skill points via that Basic Attack to use their skill they will.
    • There are mechanics and combos to do this reliably. (Such as being a swift striker class)
  • Once the first teams character attacks the opposing teams character attacks in the same fashion
  • Then it swaps back to the original team and their first row second character goes
  • When the last characters of the first row attack then it goes to the second row until they finish their attacks
  • When all characters have gone a new "turn" is started and the starting character goes again.
  • This continues on until one team has been defeated (all HP reaches 0).
  • The team still standing wins the battle
  • Battles cap out at 20 turns if this is reached a random team wins the match.

Additional mechanics and data relationships:

  • Ability types: "Skill" consumes skill points; "Secret Skill" is typically a stronger skill; "Passive" and "Secret Skill Passive" provide ongoing or conditional effects; "Awaken" unlocks/changes at specific awaken levels; "Exclusive" is gated by psyores; "Basic Attack" is used when skill points are insufficient.
  • Targeting shapes: some abilities target front row, a single column, specific positions, or all enemies. This strongly influences whether a character is niche (e.g., only front-row targets).
    • Example: A character who can only target the back row for example would need to be place on a team that has other characters that can target the front row, or all enemy characters.
  • Traits: class-based passive abilities may change optimal placement and team role.
  • Tags: bracketed ability effects like [Confuse] or [Trauma] should be referenced with exact bracketed names; some may be character-specific. Do not invent effects.
  • Resonances: Buffs that activate based on conditions (specific teammates or faction count, etc)
  • Co-ops: Owning copies of a card grants a 'co-op' bonus which will grant buffs. They do not need to be active on the same team simply owning the card(s) is enough.
  • SP rule: teams can include at most 3 SP (UR-base) cards.

General Rules

The game is called Yu Yu Hakusho: Slugfest

  • There are four classes of characters: Offensive (sword icon), Support (heart icon), Swift Strike (boot icon), and Defensive (shield icon).
    • Each class has a innate trait (passive ability)
      • Offensive: basic attacks restore 200 extra skill points.
      • Support: allies' basic attacks restore 50 skill points. (When another allies use their basic attack THEY gain 50 skill points)
      • Swift Strike: Starts the battle with 600 skill points.
      • Defensive: Restore 150 skill points when receiving basic attacks.
  • Every character has a faction being one of: psyche (blue), physique (orange), skill (green), or strength (red). - Having multiple of the same class on one team gives passive stat buffs to a team. - 2 of characters of the same faction give "DMG Up+10%" & "DMG RED+10%" (10% increased damage, and 10% increase to damage reduction respectively). - For 3 it goes up to +15%, and for 4 it goes up to +20%. (Example: 2 Psyche give +10% DMG Up & +10% DMG RED.)
  • Each character has 10 levels (Called an awaken level).
  • Cards start at level 1 (awaken level 1) and can use any ability that they meet the 'requiredLevel' for.
    • Iconography to visualize awaken levels is a star: levels 1 to 5 = Yellow stars, and 6 to 10 = Red stars.
    • UR companions start at UR level 5. Their iconography has 5 empty stars at level 5 unlike lower tier rarities.
  • When you draw a character card by "summoning" (gacha machine) you will receive a random rarity of card. R being the most common (73%), SR being rarer (24%) and SSR very rare (3%).
    • When drawing a card you already own you get "shards" of that card. Shards are used to increase the awaken level of a character. (Example 120 Jin shards required to get Jin to go from awaken level 1 to awaken level 2).
  • UR rarity cards cannot be summoned, they are acquired through random game events.
  • UR characters start at level 5 awakened level. Their shards are much harder to acquire because they cannot be summoned, only obtained through random game events and rewards.
  • UR are considered "SP" (special) cards. You cannot have more than 3 SP cards in your current team composition.
  • When a character has reached awaken level 10 they reach "awaken ascend" which gives you random challenges to gain team wide stat buffs.
  • When fighting, characters use their "skill" with 600 skill points (There are some exceptions determined by "skill" text).
  • When it is a characters turn and they don't have enough skill points for their skill they will "basic attack". After if they have enough skill points they will then use their "skill".
  • Each character has a base rarity (Example, R for rare, SR for super rare, SSR for super super rare, and UR for ultra rare. The current rarity can be increased by gathering more of the character's card).
  • Innate character stats are hidden from the games UI however, The higher the base rarity the higher the base stats of a card.
    • The term SP only applies to cards that are limited in usage. It does not represent skill points.
  • Characters who have an 'Exclusive' gain each level of it by equipping a 'Psyore' which is an equippable item to a character. This can only happen after that character has reached awaken level 10.
    • The first level 'Starter' is applied to the character when equipping 1 orange psyore.
    • The second level 'Expert' is applied when equipping 2 orange psyores.
    • The third and final level 'Perfection' is applied when equipping 2 orange psyores and one 'Exclusive Psyore' (An 'exclusive psyore' is hard to acquire usually costing real money (USD $50-100)).

Artifacts

Equippable items that add further effects to teams.

Aid Cards

A separate card mechanic that adds active effects to teams. These separate cards can use skills but are not real characters on the battle field.

Aid Cards

Aid cards are optional abilities you can bring into battles.

They are like character cards but separate from existing character cards that you slot into your lineup and fight the other team.

Aid cards have two possible abilities. #1: Battle Skill #2 Assistant Skill

You can only bring one aid card per team to use its battle skill. You may however bring 2 cards to use for their assistant skills. Simply owning aid cards gives your total power an upgrade but bringing them into battle for their powerful battle skill, and assistant skill is what can grant your team great synergistic upgrades depending on your teams composition.

Aid cards can be upgraded which increases the power of their battle skill, and assistant skill. The system works similar to character cards where you get shards to upgrade them over time.

Companion Development

How to increase the power of specific characters and your whole team.

Exclusive Enhancements

  • Each Companion has a unique Exclusive Item that can be upgraded in both Level and Star Rank using Meteorite, Spirit Controlling Stones, and Unparalleled Spirit Controlling Stones.
  • These materials can be obtained from Challenge Competitions or purchased from the Honor Shop, Merit Shop, and Fine Ore Supply. Upgrading an Exclusive Item to 5* unlocks a Psyore slot. Psyores come in three tiers-Purple, Orange, and Exclusive-and can be obtained through premium bundles and in-game events.
  • Equipping Psyores enhances the stats of the Exclusive Item. When a Companion reaches UR 5*, equipping their Exclusive Psyore unlocks a powerful Exclusive Skill.

Gems

  • The Gem System unlocks at Squad Level 34. Defeat Maze Castle Bosses to earn Gem Coins, Spirit Light Ore, and Gems—higher difficulties may also drop Gem Awakeners. Use Gem Coins in the Gem Shop to purchase gem-related items.

  • Equipping multiple Gems of the same type activates Set Effects and Gem Skills based on the number equipped. Each Gem type offers unique effects—follow in-game recommendations or customize sets based on your Companion's role.

Equipment

  • Basic equipment materials drop from Trials. Clearing Trials grants large amounts of upgrade materials, and clearing the first stage unlocks Trial AFK—rewards accumulate automatically, with higher stages yielding better AFK loot.

  • Crafting and upgrading require currency and Forging Stones. Equipment enhancement is capped by your Squad Level. Enhancement boosts base stats, while Advancement improves both base stats and enhancement bonuses.

  • To further advance Elite-grade equipment, Unparalleled Equipment Stones are required. These stones can be obtained via weekly exchanges in the Mirage Shop and Genkai Shop, or through bids in the Guild Auction.

Awakening

  • Awakening requires Companion Shards—duplicate Companions from summons are automatically converted into shards.
  • You can also obtain shards for specific Companions of your choice through events and shop exchanges, allowing you to prioritize upgrading your core team members. Awakening unlocks a Companion‘s Passive Skills and Awakening Effects, greatly enhancing their overall abilities.
  • Once a Companion reaches 5★ (awaken level 5), further Awakening can increase their rarity. For SSR Companions at 5★ (awaken level 5), additional Awakening requires an Unparalleled Awakener, which can be obtained using Crystal Beads or through weekly exchanges in the Honor Shop, Merit Shop, Host Shop, and Genkai Shop.
